CREATING THE BEST BAYER

  • The international role brings its own twists and turns to Tarja's work: "Sometimes I might work in the evening or take a break in the middle of the day. The nature of my work is well understood at Bayer. The employer is also flexible in my direction, which I think is great

  • Quality is my thing, and my ability to make challenging decisions backed by strong arguments is one of my strengths.

  • My supervisor and I constantly discuss my tasks, responsibilities and development areas. I feel that I am listened to. A good example of this is my future transition to project work. I had always been interested in project work and wanted to learn more about it.

  • Different cultures, thoughts and ways of acting bring content to one's life. It is worth quickly seizing different opportunities to expand your own perspective to new things and phenomena.

  • I think that it requires a company to have trust in its personnel, to give such good opportunities to develop oneself by moving from one task to another. For example, I had no previous experience in front-line supervisory role, but I have received training and support to develop in that area.

  • Although I do production planning locally, I am constantly in contact with our global operations and in dialogue with suppliers around the world. Working with different work cultures is educational and brings richness to the work.

  • Leading people in these changing situations fascinates me; how to involve people in the change and how to make the change meaningful for everyone? In that too, Bayer has offered me opportunities to develop my skills.

  • After all, it was a leap to come and work in the pharmaceutical industry, when I have previously worked in, for example, the ship and mechanical engineering industry and in project business. On the other hand, I knew that projects are projects, regardless of the industry, and that my skills will certainly be applicable.

  • It is extremely rewarding to know that our work is directly improving the status of women worldwide. This meaningful impact is always in the back of my mind as I work.

  • Remember to have fun with your team: Don’t put a glass ceiling between yourself and your teams. Be accessible, spend time with your teams and create moments and occasions to laugh and have fun together.

  • Learning something new and having fun every day, encouraging, and helping colleagues to do the same is a part of the atmosphere in our team.

  • At Bayer, we take pride in our people who collectively strive towards our greater purpose of enhancing the lives of people worldwide.

  • During my career at Bayer, I have been fortunate to engage with inspiring topics like continuous improvement and innovation, which are closely related to efficiency.
